Cosmic Speed Shows His Class

The Tarry yard had a memorable afternoon on Saturday when sending out Can You Danse and Cosmic Speed to win at Turffontein.

Classy gelding Cosmic Speed made a winning seasonal debut when he landed Saturday's For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 Graduation Plate.

Under a good ride from apprentice Trent Mayhew, the son of Querari raced at the back of the four-horse field early on. Cosmic Speed put his head in front 200m from home, and he went on to best the smart Cymric to score by just over half a length.

One of the best two-year-olds of last season, when victorious in the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe and runner-up in the G1 Gold Medallion, Cosmic Speed races for Heinrich Kuhn, Krishen Naidoo, and The Hon Mr Justice G N Kruger.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Cosmic Speed is out of the Silvano mare Cosmic Dream and is a full brother to G2 Debutante winner Cosmic Light.

The heat saw Cosmic Speed come back slightly distressed. Sean dedicated Saturday's win to Heinrich's late father, who sadly passed away last month.

The yard also saddled Can You Danse to win the first race run on Saturday. Under a well-judged ride from Calvin Habib, the three-year-old son of Lancaster Bomber stormed home to beat perennial bridesmaid Vibe SA by over three parts of a length in Saturday's 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1160m). Can You Danse's stablemate, Cronus, made a pleasing debut in the race when finishing third, a length and a half off the winner.

Bred by Millstream Farm, Can You Danse races for stalwart owner Lance Michael in partnership with Craig Zoghby & Mrs Zoghby. The gelding, who was making just his second start on Saturday, is out of the Trippi mare Bye Bye Baby.
